author, engineer, science, space colonies, solar sail, lightsail, hypertext,
nanotechnology, Foresight Institute, future

Full name: Kim Eric Drexler.
Born 25 April 1955 in Oakland, California, United States.
Parents: Hazel Gassmann, Allan Drexler.

First scientific paper: "Space Colony Supply from Asteroidal Materials".

Founded his own space society, the MIT Space Habitat Study Group.

Masters thesis: "Design of a High Performance Solar Sail System" (MIT, 1979).

Pioneered the concept of nanoengineering.

"K.Eric Drexler is a researcher concerned with emerging technologies. Since 1977, his work has increasingly focused on nanotechnology, a development which many now view as a basic manufacturing technology of the twenty-first century.

"K.Eric Drexler is a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University (where he taught the first university course on nanotechnology) and received degrees in science and engineering from M.I.T. ...Drexler and (Chris) Peterson are directors of the Foresight Institute (a nonprofit organization with the mission of 'preparing for future technologies'), based in Palo Alto, California. He lectures widely on nanotechnology and its consequences". [publisher's bumpf, Unbounding the Future , 1991]

Married to: Chris Peterson.

"The Foresight Institute publishes information and sponsors conferences on nanotechnology and its consequences. It provides a channel for news, technical information, and discussions of public policy, and it can help put you in contact with active people and organizations". [book bumpf, Unbounding the Future , 1991]

Received his PhD in the field of molecular nanotechnology on 18 September 1991 at MIT. This was the first degree of its kind.
