Lance Olsen

"Lance Olsen was born amid hermetically sealed, climate-controlled malls in River Edge, New Jersey, in 1956, and raised there and in a jungle-compound in Venezuela. He was educated at the University of Wisconsin (BA, 1978), the Iowa Writers Workshop (MFA), and the University of Virginia (MA, 1982, and PhD, 1985), but is feeling better now.

"He is the author of six books, including the novels, Live From Earth and Tonguing the Zeitgeist, and the first full-length study of the godfather of cyberpunk, William Gibson. His short fiction, essays, poems, and reviews have appeared in about 200 magazines and anthologies.

"The Bloomsbury Review has called Olsen's fiction 'exuberant and well crafted", The Review of Contemporary Fiction 'fast-paced and irreverent', and Booklist 'often absurd, sometimes disturbing, and wholly engrosing'.

"He currently teaches creative writing and contemporary fiction at the University of Idaho, and lives with his [artist] wife, Andi, in a log cabin on a farm [near Deary] about thirty miles to the northeast of Moscow." [publisher's bumpf, Scherzi, I Believe, 1994]
