"Born in 2008, Leisha Camden is beautiful, extraordinarily intelligent...and one of an ever-growing number of human beings who have been genetically modified to never require sleep.

"Once she and 'her kind' were considered interesting anomalies. Now they are outcasts -- victims of blind hatred, political repression and shocking mob violence meant to drive the 'Sleepless' from human society...and, ultimately, from the Earth itself.

"But Leisha Camden has chosen to remain behind in a world that envies and fears her 'gift' -- a world marked for destruction in a devastating conspiracy of freedom...and revenge." [jacket blurb, US pbk, March 1994]

"Superb...an exquisite saga of biological advantages." -- (in the Denver Post ).

"Chock full of...real characters, complex scientific ideas, and a thought provoking story with fascinating and troubling implications. I highly recommend it." --Connie Willis (author of the Nebula Award winning novel Doomsday Book ).

"Few authors have ever tackled the subject of increased intelligence with such credibility. This is one of those books I didn't want to stop reading. Great writing, interesting story, and a brilliant critique of humanity." --Henry W.Targowski (in Mark/Space, August 1996).

Highly recommended.
