He dropped out of [Cambridge] university to pursue interests in writing, music, and graphic design. For five years he was designer of New Worlds , the iconoclastic literary/science fiction magazine. He also wrote a couple of tongue-in-cheek science fiction novels, a biography of a striptease artiste, and an intercourse positions guide. In 1970 Platt emigrated to America, where he found employment as a consulting editor to Avon Books in New York and also taught college courses in science fiction and in home repairs.
