Born in Germany.

Charly Jungbauer was an electrician involved in wiring-up the Olympic Games in Münich when asked to move to Amsterdam to work at the Nederlandse Filmmakers Koöperatie as in-house technician. During 1971 and 1972 he was projectionist and technical support for the experimental and independent film shows and filmmakers workshops which were held there.

In 1972, together with Henry W.Targowski, he co-founded Mark/Space magazine; and was instrumental in the production of several audio-visual programs performed at the 'Kosmos', the 'Melkweg', the 'Zero', and the 'Hippopotamus'.

During the 1970s, he developed programmable projection equipment for multi-media shows; acted as technical advisor to many theater companies (Friends Roadshow, Pigeon Drop, etc.); was crucially involved in organizing the 'Festival of Future Possibilities'; co-authored Tracks in Space (together with Henry W.Targowski and Janet Beevers); and held various esoteric workshops in topics such as modern media, electromagnetics and synergetic geometry.

By the 1980s, Jungbauer was feverously working with computers, especially in their application to artistic expression. Among the projects which relied on his expertise were: Jeffrey Shaw's The Legible City.
