Winner of the 1987 Nebula Award for the novella The Blind Geometer.

Winner of the Asimov, John W.Campbell, Locus and World Fantasy Awards for the short story "Black Air" (contained in the book The Planet on the Table ).

Nominated for both the Hugo Award and Nebula Award for his novel The Wild Shore.

Winner of the 1993 Nebula Award for the novel Red Mars.

Winner of the 1994 Hugo Award for the novel Green Mars.
