Steven Barnes

lecturer, creative consultant, human performance technician, writer, author, novelist, screenwriter, science fiction, non-fiction, martial arts

Born 1 March 1952 in Los Angeles, California, United States.

Steven Barnes was described in The Portland Oregonian as 'The only black, male, heterosexual science fiction writer in the world'. However true or false that might be, he has published over a million words of fiction in the form of books, stories, essays, plays, comic books, and articles. Among his works are the best-selling 'Dream Park' series, Beowulf's Children , Firedance , and his current novel, Blood Brothers .

For four years one of the rotating hosts of KPFK's Hour 25 radio show, Barnes was also a monthly columnist for Black Belt magazine, and, much to his embarrassment, appeared on television's The Dating Game twice, winning both times.

His television credits include The Real Ghostbusters, The Twilight Zone, and Baywatch. Hugo Award and Cable Ace-nominated, and writer of the Emmy-Winning Outer Limits episode "A Stitch In Time" (Best Actress, Amanda Plummer), Barnes lives in Vancouver, Washington, where he is learning how to be single again after twelve years of marriage. Please. Be gentle.
